Type Locality and Naming

Tibet Geological Bureau of the South Tibet Geological Team in 1963 named "Chicun Section", Tibet District Survey Team in 1979 for the first time publicly quoted. The named section is located from Langjiexue to the Northern Slope of Zhala Mountain in Gongga County, Tibet. Upper formation in Niru Gr?

Synonym: Chacun Fm [See nomenclature history in Sunuolin Fm entry]. In 1976, the Second Geological Team of Tibet Geological Bureau and Wuhan Institute of Geology named the strata with similar meaning as the "Xuekang Formation" in Qiongjie area.


Lithology and Thickness

It is composed of black and black gray shale and sandstone interbedded with limestone lens, which is 645 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The bottom boundary marked by black shale conformably overlies onto the Upper Triassic Sunolin Fm (Sunuolin Fm)

Upper contact

It is in fault contact with the overlying Jurassic (Ritang Fm ?)
